Steve Maraboli said in his book, Life, the Truth, and Being Free, “A kind gesture can reach a wound that only compassion can heal.”  When someone is dealing with the stress, anxiety, and pain that is associated with illness a kind gesture to ease the mind can work wonders to rejuvenate a heart heavy with concern.

The response to our partnership with Sacred Heart Children’s Hospital to Knit-for-Kids was a huge success thanks to the generosity of our fiber loving community.  Your compassion was evident as hand knit and crocheted hats poured into Paradise Fibers.

Join our Journey

All of us at Paradise Fibers were overwhelmed by the outpouring of hats and kindness from our amazing participants.

Everyday we were so excited to see not only what our local customers brought in, but to see the support and involvement from across the country and the world was truly special.  (Thanks to our supporters from Down Under.  That’s right, we had knitted items donated and shipped all the way from Australia)!!

Our joy was just the beginning!  We could not wait for the delivery date to come.

Last Tuesday, April 25th we took your hand-crafted hats to Sacred Heart Children’s Hospital and were greeted by Mary and Rachael and a small red wagon to receive all the donations.  Little did they know, they were going to need a bigger wagon!  They were taken aback by the sheer number of hats that were lovingly donated.  The journey for these hats though, has just begun.

Have you taken a moment to ponder who will cherish the hat you made for them for years to come?

Hearts in Healthcare

Our hardworking friends in healthcare do an incredible job caring for more than just the illnesses they encounter. Behind the professional faces and hurried walks through the corridors, these humans dedicate their lives to being strong for those that can’t, to thinking of the little things that will make a patients day just a little bit better and healing the mind as well as the body. Everyday. Our hats off to them!

Kindness knows many forms and what makes a difference takes many shapes; a mother, whose son was previously admitted to Sacred Heart Children’s Hospital for two weeks with pneumonia, shared that her son was given a donated pillow case that he uses to this day.  For this family, an everyday item was able to take a traumatic illness and alleviate some of the anxiety that was he during his hospitalization.  Your handcrafted donations will do the same.  Taking what may well be the worst time in a family’s life and transforming it into a display of compassion and empathy.

Thoughts from our Participants

As the handmade items came in, we also received some beautiful cards and thoughts from you.  Karen mentioned our amazing healthcare workers and put it so beautifully in her card when she said, “Thank you for doing what you do and for your acts of kindness to the little warriors that fight harder than we do just to take a breath every day.”

Maggie’s knitting group was one of many groups that shared in donating for this great cause.  As much as we would have loved to have everyone be there for the delivery, this just wasn’t possible.  Maggie, a local customer, contributed so many hats and we were delighted to have her join us when we delivered all of the donated creations.  We were thrilled to have so much support and again want to thank you.  We hope these pictures give you a taste of the happiness your generosity will continue to bring to those who are fortunate enough to get one of your handmade creations!

Keep on giving Back

Knit-for-Kids may be done for now but by no means is this our last partnership to give back to the community.  In the future, we will join forces with other non-profits and look forward to working with you all again.  Until then we can’t thank you enough for your support and we hope you continue to find ways to have your love of fiber touch the lives of those around you!
